Voucherboys top 28 Magical Movies of all Time Part 2

Posted by VoucherBoy on Thursday, July 22nd, 2010

We are continuing today with the Top 28 Magcial Movies countdown and have two fresh films selected for you today.

The criteria is that the movie had an impact on the audience and that it played more on the imagination of the audience than trying to trick them with fancy CGI. There will be 2 movies listed every day, so make sure you bookmark and get back to me every morning to follow along as the list gets ever closer to that number one Magical Movie.

26. Mad Max (1979)

For a long period of time the movie industry were quite in favor of the bleak futuristic movies when humans had to fight for survival, and from these ashes of our once green planet heroes like Mad Max came forth.

The film is set in the near future of a bleak, dystopian and impoverished Australia that is facing a breakdown of civil order primarily due to widespread oil shortages. (This is not explained in this film but in the sequel, Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior.)

Central to the plot is a poorly-funded national police unit called the Main Force Patrol (MFP), which struggles to protect the Outback’s few remaining townspeople from violent motorcycle gangs. The MFP’s “top pursuit man” is a young police officer, Max Rockatansky (Mel Gibson), badge number MFP4073.

This hero appears in more movies, but it is where it all started that is rated here so that is why Mad Max is at 26.

25. Cutthroat Island (1995)

Pirates never go out of fashion and while the selection on pirate movies is quite extensive, this one still managed to do a lot without resorting to special effects and computer generated graphics. A worthy mention here is the tonnes of Treasure Island movies that is available once ever 3 or 4 years.

Female pirate Morgan Adams (Geena Davis) and her learned slave, William Shaw (Matthew Modine), are on a quest to recover the three portions of a treasure map. The treasure is hidden on a mysterious Cutthroat Island. Unfortunately, the final portion is held by her villainous uncle, Douglas (‘Dawg’) Brown (Frank Langella).

Her crew is skeptical of her leadership abilities, so she must complete her quest before they mutiny against her. This is made more difficult by the efforts of the Royal Navy from Jamaica under the command of the self-serving Governor Ainslee (Patrick Malahide) to end her piratical career. On her ship, Morning Star, Morgan starts the voyage to Cutthroat Island.

The epic quality of adventures that only pirates can bring you is landing this one at place 25.
