22. The Lion King (1994)
Disney is mostly known for their timid approach and almost strong aversion to violence and sex, but they did commit a history first in an animated film with the way they killed of one of the good characters in The Lion King.
A young lion prince is born in Africa, thus making his uncle Scar the second in line to the throne. Scar plots with the hyenas to kill King Mufasa and Prince Simba, thus making himself King. The King is killed and Simba is led to believe by Scar that it was his fault, and so flees the kingdom in shame. After years of exile he is persuaded to return home to overthrow the usurper and claim the kingdom as his own thus completing the “Circle of Life”.
Great animations supported by great voice actors and a very solid soundtrack puts this one in at place 22. Keep in mind that this was even before the Internet started to boom!
21. Lord of the Rings – The Fellowship of the Ring (2001)
It was talked about for ages, but no one really managed to pull together the increadible effort that this adaptation would require until one B-Movie director came along. With an unpresedented budget, enormous effort and large scale management it became a reality after only a mere 46 years after it was originally published.
An ancient Ring thought lost for centuries has been found, and through a strange twist in fate has been given to a small Hobbit named Frodo. When Gandalf discovers the Ring is in fact the One Ring of the Dark Lord Sauron, Frodo must make an epic quest to the Cracks of Doom in order to destroy it! However he does not go alone.
He is joined by Gandalf, Legolas the elf, Gimli the Dwarf, Aragorn, Boromir and his three Hobbit friends Merry, Pippin and Samwise. Through mountains, snow, darkness, forests, rivers and plains, facing evil and danger at every corner the Fellowship of the Ring must go. Their quest to destroy the One Ring is the only hope for the end of the Dark Lords reign!
Because of all its technical support the Lord of the Rings stops at number 21, the effort required makes it worthy of this spot.
