Voucherboys top 28 Magical Movies of all Time Part 5

We are continuing today with the Top 28 Magcial Movies countdown and have two fresh films selected for you today.

The criteria is that the movie had an impact on the audience and that it played more on the imagination of the audience than trying to trick them with fancy CGI. There will be 2 movies listed every day, so make sure you bookmark and get back to me every morning to follow along as the list gets ever closer to that number one Magical Movie.

20. Rocky (1976)

Struggle and adversity is what we like to see, hear and read about and being able to identify with the underdog is what brings together a story and makes us want to fight alongside them. Rocky comes in at number 20 because the sheer genius that Sylverster Stallone managed to pull off. For the longest time people, even the ones that knew him, thought of him as an untalented idiot, but if you read through the opening text you will be surprised at who actually did coordinate stunts and wrote the script.

Rocky Balboa is a small-time boxer who lives in an apartment in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and his career has so far not gotten off the canvas. Rocky earns a living by collecting debts for a loan shark named Gazzo, but Gazzo doesn’t think Rocky has the viciousness it takes to beat up deadbeats. Rocky still boxes every once in a while to keep his boxing skills sharp, and his ex-trainer, Mickey, believes he could’ve made it to the top if he was willing to work for it.

Rocky, goes to a pet store that sells pet supplies, and this is where he meets a young woman named Adrian, who is extremely shy, with no ability to talk to men. Rocky befriends her. Adrain later surprised Rocky with a dog from the pet shop that Rocky had befriended. Adrian’s brother Paulie, who works for a meat packing company, is thrilled that someone has become interested in Adrian, and Adrian spends Thanksgiving with Rocky. Later, they go to Rocky’s apartment, where Adrian explains that she has never been in a man’s apartment before.

Rocky sets her mind at ease, and they become lovers. Current world heavyweight boxing champion Apollo Creed comes up with the idea of giving an unknown a shot at the title. Apollo checks out the Philadelphia boxing scene, and chooses Rocky. Fight promoter Jergens gets things in gear, and Rocky starts training with Mickey. After a lot of training, Rocky is ready for the match, and he wants to prove that he can go the distance with Apollo.

19. Escape to Witch Mountain (1975)

This top list of Magical Movies is quickly filling up with Disney productions and they did produce a lot of magical movies in the era just before people could rent movies. Most of these were intended for cinemas and you sometimes notice that when you watch these films on a too small a TV.

Tia and Tony are two orphaned youngsters with extraordinary powers. Lucas Deranian poses as their uncle in order to get the kids into the clutches of Deranian’s megalomanical boss, evil millionaire Aristotle Bolt, who wants to exploit them. Jason, a cynical widower, helps Tia and Tony “escape to witch mountain,” while at the same time Tia and Tony help Jason escape the pain of the loss of his wife.

The magic abilities of these kids made almost an entire generation wish they could do the same and that is why we have this one in position 19.
